Google is set to build its second data center in Latin America, located in Canelones, Uruguay, with an investment exceeding $850 million. This new facility follows the success of Google’s first Latin American data center, which opened in Quilicura, Chile, in 2015 and has since been expanded.
The tech giant anticipates that the Canelones data center will significantly boost the professional and technological advancement of Uruguay and the surrounding region. This investment highlights Google’s ongoing dedication to enhancing its global data infrastructure.
In addition to the Canelones center, Google is planning a large-scale ‘hyperscale’ data center in Vietnam, slated to become operational by 2027. The company has also announced substantial investments elsewhere, including $3 billion for a new data center campus in Indiana, USA, and $2 billion to create its first data center and Google Cloud region in Malaysia.
