Cost of health related services up 4.3% for year ended July

Jamaicans increased their spending on health care and related services over the past year.

According to the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, the average cost of goods and services in the ‘Health’ category rose by 4.3 percent for the year ending in July.

In July alone, this category saw a 0.2 percent increase.

This rise was mainly due to a 0.3 percent hike in ‘Medicines and Health Products’, driven by higher prices for some prescription medications.

Additionally, STATIN reported a 0.1 percent increase in ‘Other Health Services’, attributed to rising fees for laboratory tests.
